Regarding the young man who got into a taxi and, when he got out, came to find out that he was a spy

Oct. 30th, 2008 | 04:57 am

I gotta get this off my chest:  You're not a hero if you vote.  There, I said it.  I know its contrary to all the hype and everyone's gonna be camping out the night before so they can be the first punch their ticket on the 4th (Thank God for absentee ballots!).  But, hello fuckers, its your civic responsibility.  There are only 3 things our government asks of its citizens:  1 -- Pay your taxes.  2 --  Serve on juries from time to time.  3 -- Vote.  Most people hate the first, avoid the second and could care less about the third.  Fine, knock yourselves out.  Alot of us don't mind doing all three and have been doing them all without complaint since they were 18.

So fucking stop it.  Stop sending me cute little notes reminding me to vote.  I don't need you to remind me to brush my teeth or wipe my ass after I take a dump.  I certainly don't need you to urge me to do something I do anyway.

The last thing I purchased:  a $1 haircut.  I don't need them as much as I used to.  But I look great with a shaved head.  I tipped $4 because I didn't have the heart to stand there waiting for change and the man is a deft hand with a straight razor.

The strangest thing in my pockets:  a socket wrench with a 3/4 inch socket attached.  I honestly have no need for it to be in there; I just put it in my pocket absent-mindedly.

Most interesting thing I did today:  wrote an e-mail to my brother defending my position that most "period movies" (i.e. -- movies that rely heavily on recreation of an era in world history) are not art.  This goes back three days to my viewing of "The Majestic" and my subsequent dissatisfaction with how I had just spent 2 and a half hours of my time.

Most recent superlative in my life:  I'm officially the person who is the least amused by Jon Stewart.  As much as I appreciate galactic over-simplifications of really complex and important current events, I just can't stand his smug, self-deprecating, future-date-rapist charisma.
